Earthstrike is here! Now rogues have access to 2 strong active trinkets before counting raid drops such as Jom Gabbar or Badge of the Swarmguard. There’s a new meta evolving around using 2 active trinkets together, so let’s explain how it works.
Video version of this guide:

How do you even use 2 active trinkets together?
Active trinkets in general will share a cooldown when one is used (outside of Badge of the Swarmguard, which has it’s own unique cooldown). This means if you equip 2 on-use trinkets (such as Earthstrike + Renataki), then use one of them, it will put both trinkets on cooldown.
This means you can’t use 2 active trinket effects at the same time, but you CAN use a 2nd trinket after the first trinket active is over.
The popular 2 right now is of course Earthstrike + Renataki, but you can use what we’re going to talk about for other good active trinkets going forward such as Jom Gabbar or the later phase 6 trinkets.
So that said, there are some tips/rules to doing this properly:
Tip 1: The fight has to be long enough to use both trinkets (duh)
Since you have to use one trinket, wait for the cooldown, then use a second trinket active, the fight obviously needs to be long enough to actually get usage out of both trinkets.
This means if it’s a super short fight such as Razorgore in BWL, then you wouldn’t use double active trinket.
Tip 2: Renataki triggers a lower shared cooldown
If one of the trinkets is the Renataki trinket, then you can use Renataki first and it will only triggers a 10 second shared cooldown. It’s not typically a big deal using one or the other first, as long as you use both properly, but this can be useful situationally.
For example – on Sartura you could use Renataki during the early cleave on adds to get more cleave damage in, then use Earthstrike afterwards with your Adrenaline rush.
Or dagger rogues who have tight early rotations can use Renataki to get their rotation smoothed out early, then have Earthstrike ready to go to use with dps cooldowns.
When NOT TO USE double active trinkets in Phase 5
If you have a DFT, you generally will not be using the Renataki + Earthstrike duo together in most fights, unless they are very, very short fights, and even then it would generally be suggested to rotate your active trinkets with a DFT in one slot.
So for example you could use DFT + Renataki in one fight, then rotate it out to DFT + Earthstrike right after, and keep swapping active trinkets between fights when one is on CD. This will be the typical way you want to use your active trinkets if you have a DFT.
There are exceptions of course, for example on the Sartura fight, a double active setup using Renataki could potentially out perform a DFT combo because the extra energy during the cleave scales better there.

Or on Twin Emps for another example, active trinkets perform well there because you spend time running between bosses and not attacking while the active trinket is on cooldown. In general though, you will want to stick with 1 passive + 1 active trinket if you have a DFT.
Who should be using double active trinkets?
If you don’t have a DFT, then double active trinkets from this phase onwards can be really, really strong for you! If you watch my AQ40 early look video with Fjeenzy, it’s the trinket setup he uses himself (since he doesn’t have a DFT yet).
I’d generally recommend you go double active for practically every fight that is long enough to use both trinkets if you don’t have a DFT yet.
The breakpoint for earthstrike + renataki vs. 1 active + bhb/hoj is very high (approaching or reaching 2 mins in some cases) and if the fight goes on long enough, you can end up getting a second use of your actives which puts it in favour of double active trinkets again.
When does 2 active trinkets beat 1 active + 1 passive trinket in a single fight?
This will change depending on the 2 trinkets you use of course. Badge of the Swarmguard is it’s own thing which deserves it’s own video/article I think, so let’s leave it out of this one and I’ll cover it in a different guide.
Again, if you have DFT I’d still generally recommend rotating 1 active trinket most of the time rather than using 2 actives in 1 fight (outside of notable exceptions).
Now let’s get into the p5 sim/breakpoint data that I know you guys want to see…
Note: These sims are just rough breakpoints done with bis gear setups/buffs for quick reference. I’d still recommend you sim yourself if you want a super precise look at your own breakpoint based on your current gear/buffs.
So basically if you want a VERY rough number, it’s about the 1ish minute mark where double active Renataki + Earthstrike starts losing to DFT + 1 active trinket for most rogues.
